WHISkids is a combination of physical and emotional work, in a fun way that's for everybody. It's not just for those who have issues. We don't want specialised classes. We recognise that every single child has a unique offering in the world and want them to explore that.
1 in 10 children and young people aged 5 - 16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder - that is around three children in every class.
More than half of all adults with mental health problems were diagnosed in childhood. Less than half were treated appropriately at the time.
31.2% of children aged 2 to 15 were classed as either overweight or obese.
69% of young people have witnessed somebody else being bullied, 43% of which see it at least once a week.
WHISkids is not just for children who have been identified as needing extra support. It is a person-centred program that supports all. Children who are currently experiencing good mental health and a stable family life still need to build emotional intelligence, resilience and understand how their health is impacted by their choices to help navigate life now and in the future.
This also helps children who are working alongside each other through the program to develop empathy and understanding for the differences and similarities we all share.
As a person-centred programme the participants measure their distance travelled each session. We're developing an intuitive app too that will record what users use most and has the best impact so we can innovate more helpful resources for mental health and wellbeing.
Next steps - arrange a call with our programme lead and we'll scope the project and requirements. Then we set a date and the work begins to support.
